The Blacksmith 3D-Suite 3 is a software package of application tools for 3D artists designed to edit existing 3D objects via texturing, morphing and modeling, and with painting tools.
Suitable for amateurs and professional artists, such as those working in all disciplines of the multimedia industry, the Blacksmith 3D-Suite 3 fuses 2D and 3D together in order to offer a versatile all-in-one collection of tools that provide complete solutions for artists without them having to go back and forth between 2D paint and 3D modeling applications. Artists of all stages of ability benefit from the deliberately familiar looking design of the program’s interface which gives them the ‘feel’ of 2D paint applications. This makes artists themselves feel more at ease when they first experience the program. Still keeping the artists in mind, the program developers have included a handy hint box for every tool that is shown whenever they hover over any element in the interface with the mouse.
The modeling aspect in the Blacksmith 3D-Suite 3 allows geometric editing to 3D models while morph targets are preserved. With the 3D painting feature, artists can finish their works of art by painting across UV seams with ease, and the UV mapping and texture maps can be used in other 3D applications such as 3D Studio Max, Maya, Poser and Lightwave. The Paint Setup Wizard offers the choice of Auto-UV mapping if needed. The Clone Brush tool allows artists to clone anything in the view port except backgrounds and overlays, including images and other objects. For more specifically detailed editing results, artists can use the Continuous Zoom feature and enable Auto-Center so that they may work on small areas. The program features an extremely useful symmetry option that is available for almost every tool that enables the tools to act symmetrically on a symmetric object. For example, if artists choose the Symmetric Painting option, they can paint one side of a model and see the paint appear on the other side as well. Left to Right Symmetry allows painting on the opposite side. The Blacksmith 3D-Studio 3 is compatible with Max Maya, Lightwave, Cinema 4D, Softimage, Photoshop, Poser and any other applications that can import and export .obj files and use standard texture maps such as .jpg, .png, etc. The program supports the Windows XP and Vista operating systems as well as the Mac OS 10.3. Artists will find detailed help files on the developer’s website in their support tab.
